Make anything your own

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

You know how bad it feels when you turn up somewhere wearing the same dress as someone else and bringing out your coffee mug to make a cuppa at a crop or meeting and finding that someone else has exactly the same coffee mug? Well those days are gone!!

Coffee MugWith the 2008-2009 Catalogue Stampin’ Up!® introduced their rub ons to the Australian public. Yes I know we have had other brand rub ons here for quite some time I am very proud to say that the Stampin’ Up!® rub ons are of very high quality and I have not had one problem with them like I have with other (big) brand rub ons.

Before a recent demonstration where I thought I’d decorate a mug and give that to my hostess with a sachet of hot chocolate in there I would test them myself and I am very pleased to say they worked at home and the demonstration and my hostess (as well as her guests) were very impressed with it - I am sure that my hostess also enjoyed the hot chocolate!

diarySo when I came across the new Financial Year diaries in Big W last week and found a lovely pastel pink one but thought it would have been nice with a pattern on it I figured I’d survive.

So as I was sitting down preparing for a class and glanced and my coffee mug and had one of those light bulb moments and wondered how they’d go on my diary. So what’s a girl to do? I applied the rubons and boy did they look good.

Then I remembered seeing them on Tracey’s laptop so yeah I put a couple on there too.

Now I do a fair bit of work on my laptop and they have shown no signs of wear yet and one is where my wrist sits when I type -but then again it has only been 4 days!

laptop

Bit snazzy hey??

Remember a while back I made a friend a pocket card for her birthday with no stamping? that one was using rub ons too - here’s the card as a reminder and to show you that you can use rub ons for just about anything!

ScallopTriFold2gether

This was the card that was highlighted in the Splitcoast Stampers Weekly Inkling - the regular newsletter you can get for free and it is full of great information, tutorials and challenges and well worth signing up for!

I just followed the tutorial for the Trifold Pocket card which was written by the very talented Beate Johns.

Beate does such stunning work and writes wonderful tutorials so that anyone can follow them & make lovely cards - if I can do it anyone can!!

Now can you believe there is NO INK and NO STAMPS on this card???? yes its true! A bit unlike me hey? Nearly fell off my chair when I realised but boy how much do I love the new Stampin’ Up!® rub ons?? they are wonderful and work first go unlike some others I know of from a major brand too - but we wont talk about thems.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

I’m sure that you too have had all those email survey’s and one question that comes up a lot is the ‘Chocolate or Vanilla?’ So what happens if you’re like me and like both? There are days when one really needs Chocolate (bit like today!) and other days when Vanilla hits the spot.

Blissful Friend - BrownGrosgrain I recently made this card for a swap for our Stampin’ Up! team. It was a swap where we had to use one of the new sets and I used the Occasional Greetings set.

Recipe:
Stamps: Occassional Greetings, Baroque Motifs
Cardstock: Berry Bliss DSP, Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink , Very Vanilla
Ink: Close to Cocoa, Versamark
Accessories: Chocolate Chip 5/8″ grosgrain, gold brads, stampin dimensionals.
Blissful Friend - VanillaGrosgrain

Now when I normally make swaps I figure I may as well make a couple extra cards to use for samples or to send to someone (as one does with a card). So when making up my spares I ran out of the Chocolate Chip ribbon and thought hmm … what to do. I did have some Vanilla wide grosgrain I could use and thought it may be a bit too light for the card.

Well I put it together and thought … mmmm I think I like this better!

So you see although we think that chocolate cures all there are some times that vanilla works just as well!

Time for a coffee - have a great day!

Happy Easter

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

I just wanted to pop in today and wish all of you a happy, safe and Blessed Easter!

Its a time for new beginnings, putting the past behind us and looking forward and celebrating new life and remembering how loved we are that God would send His son to die for us that we might have life with Him forever.

EasterHats2008

I thought I’d also share the hats I made for the Easter Parade at School last thursday and amazingly enough they were quite easy to make.

GirlsEasterHats

Here they are proudly (?) wearing their hats - they even made it through the day and home again in one piece - and not a chocolate in sight - maybe this is why they came home in one piece?

I found a picture on the internet using Google Images and just copied it - turned out ok I think - not as nice as the one online but hey I did them in just 40 minutes and while I had a tension headache after battling everyone at Aldi that morning!

They are held together by sticky tape and I used double sided tape to stick on the beaks and eyes - how easy is that and now they have these lovely glittery hats to leave glitter all over the house!

One of the easier years - surely next year they will be too old for the Easter Hat parade!

Wishing you and your family a very happy & safe easter

and watch out for those lactose intolerant Easter Bunnies!!

I’m famous!!

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

LOL … well you gotta sound your own horn don’t you cos no one else will!

Last week we had the news about the effects the toy called Bindeez (or Aqua Dots in USA) had when ingested so as soon as I heard I thought the right thing to do was to inform all my friends (IRL and Online) about this terrible hazard as I didnt want anyone’s children to fall victim so I did and I went and emailed my lovely Stampin Up friends internationally on the several groups I’m on and in doing so I have become a hero-ine for some … here is what the lovely Rebecca posted on one of our groups …

Three cheers for Leonie Schroder!! She is my hero!!

Leonie -

The story broke here on the 11pm news just now. You may be personally responsible for bringing this problem to the attention of the entire USA !!!!

According to the reporter who interviewed me this afternoon (how cool is that?!), the Consumer Product Safety Commission wasn’t even aware of the problem when the news station contacted them about it yesterday. By today, they had recalled the toys!! Suddenly, it’s all over the news here in Boston, hopefully everywhere else, too.

When eaten, Aquadots/Bindeez turn into the powerful date rape drug GBH. Two kids in the US have gone into non-responsive comas from eating these beads.

Thank-you so much for emailing us yesterday & alerting us to this problem that our own government knew nothing about!!

See so just by sending an email to your contacts in your inbox you can save the world (so to speak!)

I have been busy today and last night with workshops. I will upload some cards to share what we made last night at the Stamp a Stack and the One Sheet Wonder workshop today - so stay tuned!
